Album Cover Analysis

Eminem: When I'm Gone, Album Cover Analysis

The images used on this album cover is a picture of the artist or some one who looks like the artist standing facing the crowd, we can see flowers on the stage which usually happens after a show, we also see the artist waving possibly waving good night.  We cannot actually see any audience because of the lights in the background forcing us to see the stage and the back of the artist.

The text on the cover is just the artist and the name of the song ‘When I’m Gone’, Eminem is bold and white, it stands out from the black back ground.  The name of the album is ‘When I’m Gone’ which is under the artists name, smaller and in green which makes it blend in a bit with the black background and brown stage.  It’s not as noticeable as the artists’ name.

The relation ship between the text and image is that they work together and blend in well.  The text is white, which stands out from the black background, however the album name is dark green, which blends in with the background and is not as noticeable.  The company wants the artist to stand out then try and get you to read more.

I would say the iconography of the album cover would and would not represent the artist. Mainly because he is a rapper and most rapper’s perform in clubs not on stage.  However I would say from Eminem’s videos he is a performer and the album cover shows he has given a good performance, or he is at the end of his performance.

I would say the target audience for the album would be teens up to the age of young adults.  The type of music would not be aimed for small children or pre-teens.
